ANCIENT AUTOPSIES (SCIENCE FRONTIERS SERIES)

As deadly diseases become resistant to antibiotics, medical researchers are looking to the past—analysing the DNA of ancient forms of diseases like TB and malaria—to help solve the problems of today.
Taking tissue samples from mummies and using endoscope technology, CAT scans and genetic analysis, they hope to get a snapshot of the DNA of the diseases as they looked thousands of years ago, and use their original genetic structure to render the diseases of today harmless. Our ancient ancestors may in fact just hold the key to beating the modern diseases that threaten us all.
